Ever Wonder How a Pitch Session Goes?

Last night I returned from the Pitch n Shop Conference. It was a great experience on many levels. Of course, one of the key benefits was meeting editors face-to-face, learning that they are real people that are generally interested in the books that other real people have written. As for those real people out there writing books, it was interesting to see what they came up with. People say that everything has been done before, but there are still so many fantastic ideas out there (even if they are twists on old stories).
Pretty much everyone I talked to wrote a book that fit them like a sweater woven from their interests, experiences, and personality (and dog hair in my case, I guess). No one in the room really could have written anyone else’s book. It was fascinating. Our books are not only a part of ourselves because we pour so much time, energy, and creativity (and blood, sweat, and tears, etc.) into creating them, but they really are a piece of ourselves. The simile of books being like children is so much stronger for me now.
The competition for who will get to put the “My Kid is an Honor Roll Student” bumper sticker on her car is tough!

If you like dogs, like shopping for a cause, like cool stuff, or are just an ebay junkie, check out PBRC’s annual online auction: http://stores.ebay.com/PBRC-Poppy-Mart
100% of the proceeds go toward Pit Bull Rescue Central’s good work to help rescued dogs and restore the image of the pit bull.
Happy Bidding (as long as it’s not against me)!

For those of you who operate off-line, I also have business cards now…just in case anyone begs for my contact information at the Pitch n Shop Conference next week.
I’m also on Flickr, but haven’t gotten active with photo tagging and whatever else is involved with Flickring. For the future, I have ideas for more internet fun, including YouTube and CafePress. Did I miss anything?
